What is the miraDry procedure?
miraDry is a safe and clinically proven treatment for lasting reduction of underarm sweat and odour. The procedure is quick, non-invasive and FDA-approved. Typically, only one single session is required to achieve 82% reduction in underarm sweat and odour. However, if you are suffering from a chronic condition called hyperhidrosis, two or three sessions may be required.
How does it work?
The treatment works by delivering precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the armpit. The heat penetrates beneath the skin and heats the sweat glands, causing their breakdown and destruction. In simple words, we microwave the sweat glands to achieve an immediate and dramatic reduction in underarm sweat and odour. Once eliminated, these sweat glands do not grow back.
The procedure generally lasts between 90 and 120 minutes, including local anaesthesia injection. At the moment miraDry is the only FDA-cleared treatment that prevents underarm sweat and odour in an entirely non-invasive way.
Why choose miraDry?
miraDry is completely unique. While other non-surgical treatment options (including antiperspirants) aim to temporarily disable the sweat glands for varying lengths of time requiring repeated treatments to maintain effectiveness, miraDry destroys the sweat glands, providing superior results. A secondary effect of the treatment includes underarm hair reduction which means you can treat three issues in one go: sweat, odour and hair.
miraDry is a live-changing choice for people suffering from hyperhidrosis. However, it’s also recommended to everyone who doesn’t want to worry about sweat and odour in the short and long term. We calculated that on average one person is using over 250 deodorant cans in a lifetime, so miraDry is an attractive solution to individuals who don’t want to put chemical deodorants on their skin anymore. Instead of masking the problem or provide a temporary solution, miraDry is a game-changing treatment that provides clinically-proven results.
Results may vary from patient to patient. At your complementary consultation, we can discuss your likely outcome.
Does the procedure hurt?
miraDry procedure is performed under local anaesthesia to minimise discomfort. During the treatment, most people experience some pressure and light pulling on the skin, with some sensations of warmth. There may be an occasional "hot spot" that lasts briefly but is usually well tolerated. On average, patients describe the discomfort as about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest).
What happens after the procedure?
Immediately after the procedure, the ice packs will be applied to the treatment area, and this should be regularly repeated for the following three days. Patients may experience bruising and swelling, which may last up to 2 weeks.
A non-prescription anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen will minimise the discomfort and no downtime is usually required. You should be able to return to normal activities or work right after the procedure, and you can usually resume exercise within several days. The underarms should be kept clean, avoiding antiperspirant for a few days.
When will I feel the results?
miraDry® works immediately because the sweat glands are instantly destroyed. However, due to the numbness in the treated area some patients will only start noticing the effect 72 hours after the treatment.
